Submissions and reader mail

When you send a title suggestion, a mailbag pick, or a note about a book you think deserves a closer look, the message is read by the reviewer. It may be quoted in a future column, edited for length and clarity, and it cannot be returned. Please do not send manuscripts, unpublished drafts, or anything you need back.

Quoting published work

Reviews, reading lists, and author Q&As published here remain the property of the reviewer. You are welcome to quote a short passage in a book club handout, a newsletter, or a class reading list, as long as the reviewer is named and a link back to the original page is included. Republishing a full piece requires written permission first.

Shop and library links

Links to bookshops and library branches are listed so you can find a copy, not as a recommendation of any particular seller. The desk does not control stock, opening hours, or how a shop handles an order, and a link appearing on a page does not mean the desk endorses that business.

Third-party sellers

Availability, condition, and the price a seller sets for a book are outside the desk's control. If an edition arrives damaged, is delayed, or turns out to be a different printing than expected, that matter sits with the seller. The desk cannot intervene in those transactions.

Opinions in reviews

Every review reflects one reader's judgment on a specific edition. Another reader may disagree, and that is fine. The desk is not liable for decisions you make about what to read, buy, borrow, or recommend to a book club based on a review published here.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the desk adds features or adjusts how submissions are handled. The current version is always the one published on this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
